Overview
Bring your culinary expertise to the Cecil Facer Youth Centre where you will prepare meals, accommodate special diets, and keep the kitchen safe and secure while positively influencing youth resident helpers. Please Note: This temporary position is irregularly scheduled on-call and the hours of work vary from 0-40 hours per week, with no minimum guaranteed number of hours. What can I expect to do in this role?
- In a large-volume facility kitchen, you will:
- Prepare meals and maintain food inventory/rotation
- Maintain housekeeping and sanitary work conditions
- Inspect eating facilities and equipment
- Follow menus, work schedules and dietary charts, and substitute menu changes
- Serve and portion meals
- Train and supervise youth helpers
How do I qualify?
- Food Services Knowledge and Experience
- You know how to cook for both small and large groups
- You can follow menus and adjust for special diets
- You know how to use kitchen equipment safely
- You understand food safety and portion control
- You keep your work area clean and sanitary
- You know health and safety standards like WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Other Essential Skills
- You can learn and follow kitchen safety and security rules
- You communicate well and work great in a team
- You can supervise and train resident helpers professionally
- You can write reports about the work of resident helpers
- You can solve problems with kitchen equipment and food service issues efficiently
